M.SC. DANIEL SCHMEER – ILEK – INSTITUTE FOR LIGHTWEIGHT STRUCTURES AND CONCEPTUAL DESIGN, PROF. DR.-ING. DR.-ING E.H. DR. H.C. WERNER SOBEK, UNIVERSITY OF STUTTGART – LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE STRUCTURES
The building sector is currently responsible for 60% of global natural resource consumption, 35% of the CO2-emissions and 50% of global waste by volume. At the same time, the world’s population is increasing, and migration among countries is increasing. In order to keep up with the demand for new construction in a sustainable manner, the Institute for Lightweight Construction and Conceptual Design (ILEK), under the leadership of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Werner Sobek, investigates new approaches for lightweight, and thus resource and energy efficient construction. www.uni-stuttgart.de/ilek

DIPL.-ING. GEORG GRASSER – ARGE GRASSER MURERO, VIENNA – TEXTILE FOLDING IN CONCRETE
Georg Grasser and Martin Murero are a Vienna based design and research team. They have developed specific skills for using concrete in design objects combined with an empiricla research on new manufacturing methods like folding and 3-D printing. Their concrete formulas aim for CO2 reduction, also starting to use geopolymeres as a concrete substitute. www.materialrevolution.at

Mastermodul Experimenteller Hochbau, TU Wien – Concrete Canoe. A team of students and assistant professors from TU Vienna have participated for the first time at the 2015 „Betonkanu Regatta“ in Germany – a competition existing for 30 years now. They won the 2nd price in the category „construction“, using a specially designed light-weight-ultra-high performance concrete formula with textile reinforcement. The canoe gathers all front-end technology and up-to date knowledge on concrete. tuboot.wordpress.com
